Contact sheets and the selection process

Creating a contact sheet can be a quick and easy way to create a page of thumbnail size versions of a selection of photographs. This allows each student to proof multiple images on a single page.

The students on the Foundation Degree in Photography are getting close to the first submission of the new academic year and starting the process of selecting suitable photographs to submit for each module.

Historically, a contact sheet was a page of images each printed at the same size at the film negative - they were used as a reference for the images on the film roll. They were called contact sheets because the film was placed in close contact with the paper when printing them.
