Visiting Guest Speaker Roy Carr

Last Friday, local Welsh photographer, Roy Carr came in to discuss his new Photography Exhibition, 'A year in their lives and other work'. Roy is a frequent guest speaker who has also worked on location with our students, sharing tips on specialist landscape techniques.

The Cynon Valley Museum is excited to announce a Photographic Exhibition 'A year in their lives and other work,' featuring the work of Cardiff based photographer Roy Carr.

Roy has been following sheep farms in and around the Cynon Valley, documenting the key events of the farming year: lambing, shearing, hay making, ‘dipping’, going to market and winter grazing.

His photographs sensitively portray the animals and the people who work with them, capturing a way of life which, in many ways, has remained unchanged for generations, as they tend their flocks on the mountains of South Wales in all weathers. The physical demands are evident, as well as the commitment of the farmers to their animals. The photographs succeed in telling the story of life on the hills.

Roy has also included a selection of landscape work from Wales and beyond, taking us from just five minutes from home, overlooking the Bristol Channel to the dramatic mountains of Iceland. These demonstrate his commitment to early morning starts and extremes of weather as he sets out to ‘make’ his photographs.

At 2pm on each of the Saturdays throughout the exhibition, Roy will give a guided talk around his work, telling the tales behind the photographs.
